$25 for a new Mac, Really…Not Really

For $25 you can get a nice shinny new Macintosh computer and one running Windows and one running Linux. Really just $25 will get you multiple computers with multiple operating systems, well just 30 minutes of a virtual machine or tons of browser shots.

Yes another Fundable group is looking to get a membership to Browsercam and I am among the group members.

What is Browsercam? Browsercam is a website that allows you to get screen shots of websites through various operating systems and web browsers. They also have plans that allow 30 minutes of remote access, which is key when you are testing functionality. Normally membership is about $400 a year which is cheaper than buying multiple computers. However they offer group rates which we are trying to purchase for $25 a head, that is a savings of $375 over the course of year; or you could buy a day pass for $19. $19 for 1 day or $25 for 365 days, do the math. I recommend joining this group in the next 48 hours, which is when the group expires.

So what is Fundable? Fundable is actually a very cool site. The premise is simple, someone starts a group to raise a certain amount of funds within a specified time period. People go to the site and join the group, making payment to Fundable. If the goal is not met by the date all released is returned to the group members, if the goal is met the funds are released to the group leader.

I've used Fundable in the past, actually to get a membership to Browsercam. It works, I've joined groups that didn't meet the goal and got my money back. I joined a group that met the goal and the funds were released and shortly thereafter I got my Browsercam membership. I guess the only issue could be if the group leader was dishonest, for $25 I'll risk it.
